CIL’s Foundations to Freedom program breaks down barriers for individuals with disabilities, allowing them to maintain a high quality of life and improve mental and physical well-being. Home modifications remove physical barriers that prevent them from being able to safely access, stay, and enjoy living in their home.
These modifications include, but are not limited to, ramps, grab bars, door widening, and tub cut out kits.
Assistive equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers and shower chairs assist people to increase or stabilize mobility function.
Assistive technology including hardware, software or peripherals help to perform other tasks and activities of daily living.
Foundations to Freedom covers a wide variety of crucial services, including:
- Ramps for easier ingress and egress
- Grab bars for safety in showers and around the home
- Widening of door frames to allow for walkers and wheelchairs
- Bathtub modifications for easier entry and exit
- Equipment such as walkers, canes, and more
The Foundations to Freedom campaign serves as one of CIL's major projects for 2024.
We set a high fundraising bar for the campaign this year: $100,000!
As a nonprofit organization, CIL receives funding, grants, and collects donations so we’re able to support our consumers with programs like Foundations to Freedom. While we serve seven counties in Central Florida, we can only provide services for a finite amount of people due to lack of funds.
Over the past year, CIL has helped 289 Central Florida residents with disabilities through Foundations to Freedom. However, when we don’t have funding, we must put people on a waiting list, meaning they won’t receive these life changing services for months, sometimes a year. However, 386 people requested services, so we were unable to help 97 people. These people were put on a waiting list and are still waiting for CIL's help to this day.
Your donation provides the funding to make these services possible, which will lead to CIL helping even more Central Floridians with disabilities this year.
